The nucleosome acidic patch refers to a small set of negatively charged amino acids clustered on the surface of the nucleosome disk, at the interface of histones H2A and H2B. This patch serves as a central binding site for many chromatin binding proteins, including nucleosome remodeling complexes, and has emerged as a key regulator of multivalent chromatin interactions. The acidic patch has also been shown to modulate high-order chromatin folding and condensation through extensive interactions with histone tails.
