The potential effects of mycoplasma contamination in biological products are of major concern in research, diagnostics, and biotechnological environments. The effects of mycoplasma are decreased quantity of product produced, decreased quality of the product, and lack of consistency and reproducibility.
Current methods for the inactivation or elimination of mycoplasma in cell cultures are antibiotic-based. Antibiotic therapies do not always result in successful elimination of contaminants. Moreover antibiotics exhibit cytotoxic properties that are capable of modifying the metabolism of eukaryotic cells and promote the development of resistant mycoplasma strains. The BioMycoX Mycoplasma Elimination Reagent is a biological agent that reliably and completely eliminates mycoplasma contamination: BioMycoX® integrates into the mycoplasma membrane and compromises its integrity. The result is an osmotic influx that leads to the complete collapse of the mycoplasma membrane. With mycoplasma abolition, mammalian cells immediately return to their native morphology and normal proliferation rates.
BioMycoX® is used for the elimination of Mycoplasma and Acholeplasma in cell and virus cultures, and other biologicals.
In comparison to other products for the elimination, inactivation, or suppression of mycoplasma, the BioMycoX Mycoplasma Elimination Reagent is more effective and has been shown to not cause any changes in normal cell characteristics.
