Maximum Efficiency DNA Transfection (for Difficult to Transfect Cells incl. Primary Cells)

GenePORTER 2 Transfection Reagent

• High transfection efficiencies in difficult-to-transfect cells
• Compatibility with serum-containing media
• Low cytotoxicity
• Optional convenient single-use format (GenePORTER® 2 QuikEase™ Kit)

The GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent is a novel lipid formulation (US Patent 6,348,499) specifically designed to provide high transfection efficiencies in a broad range of mammalian cells. It is especially effective in difficult-to-transfect cells, such as PC-12, macrophages, and primary cells.
Developed using a high-throughput transfection assay that screens a large library of cationic lipids, GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent was selected based on high transfection efficiency, low cytotoxicity, and exceptional stability. Additionally, because of its minimized interaction with serum components, GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent is ideal for transfection in serum-containing media.

How does it work?
The positively charged primary amino functional groups in the polar region of the GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent interact with the negatively charged phosphate backbone of the plasmid DNA electrostatically.
The newly formed DNA/GenePORTER complexes have a net positive charge (when formulated under the recommended conditions), and will bind to the negatively charged plasma membranes of the cells. The complexes are subsequently taken inside the cells via endocyctosis.

The reagent is delivered as a dried lipid film along with two different DNA diluents, and is available in different formats.

The two DNA diluents are also available separately.

The GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent is shipped at room temperature. For maximum stability, store all reagents at 4ºC upon receipt. If stored properly, the dried GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent is stable for 12 months, and the hydrated GenePORTER® 2 Transfection Reagent is stable for 6 months.
The Hydration Buffer and DNA Diluent are stable for 12 months.
